Lua Escudeiro is the new official team rider for Semente Surfboards. The young surfer from the Algarve, residing in Ericeira, has already had the brand's support for some years and now officially joins the team of athletes.
Currently 18 years old, Lua is part of the new generation of national surfers, being one of the emerging talents who have established themselves nationally and internationally. With Portuguese and world women's surfing going through its best phase ever in terms of performance, the surfer, originally from Tavira and living in Olhão since she was two years old, has focused on her work and her evolution, achieving remarkable results.
Daughter of surfer parents, she has strong family support that allowed her to fulfill her dream of becoming a professional surfer, moving lock, stock, and barrel to Ericeira in 2023, the paradise of perfect waves in Portugal that helped her progress rapidly.
In 2025, she became the national Under-18 champion, national Pro Junior Under-20 runner-up, and had her best year ever in the MEO League, finishing among the top five national surfers and receiving the "Junior of the Year" trophy from the National Surfing Association. Internationally, she finished in the Top 10 of the European Pro Junior circuit, achieving 7th place in the ranking. Before that, in 2023, she had already won the title of national Under-16 runner-up and was crowned national champion of the Rip Curl GromSearch, having been a finalist in the European final where she finished in 4th place. Possessing strong rail surfing skills with solid maneuvers and increasingly consistent performances, the future is promising for the athlete who has already been part of the national team in international competitions several times.
Lua Escudeiro's goals include finishing in the top 10 of the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships, which will soon be held in Peru, and, by 2026, she will fight for qualification for the WSL Junior World Championship and win the national junior Under-20 championship title.
“I’ve been using Semente boards for three years and they’ve been a part of my evolution over the last few years,” said the athlete. “Joining the team is a huge source of pride and immense happiness! I love working with Nick Uricchio and the entire Semente team. I couldn’t be on a better team to help me through this process!” she concluded.
From the brand's perspective, “Lua Escudeiro moved with her family to Ericeira two years ago to develop and be at the heart of competitive surfing, where everything happens. We had been following her journey for some time and recently she officially joined the team. It has been a pleasure working with her as a team rider; she is communicative and gives us valuable feedback, being a young surfer with a very positive attitude. We like having this kind of person on our team, happy to surf and ready for challenges, and she has become an increasingly fierce competitor. During the time we have worked together, we have made several important technical improvements to her boards, perfecting their characteristics to make them even better.”
